I've been working as freelancer for about 5 years now, and want to start my small biz. with a team. Now, as a freelancer, I'm doing tasks one by one, no project planning or management ! When I searched about this topic, I found Agile (Scrum) methodology. but Actually I can't understand it through wikipedia or separate articles. So, can you recommend me some tools / books / topics to read in regards Software Project / Management ? Thanks for your time :) ! |

Hello there, Before you jump into the specifics and different schools of project management techniques like Agile , 6 sigma, or Lean, I'd suggest you get a grasp on the whole "project management" framework to begin with. A couple of book titles that might help you get started: "The art of Project Management" Scott Burken , O'Reilly and Sons. "AMA Handbook of Project Management, 2nd Edition" , American Management Association. "Practical Project Management, Tips Tools & Tricks" Wiley & Sons. I would recommend "The business of software" it is a very popular, must-read book that's been in the curriculum of most universities. http://www.amazon.com/Business-Software-Manager-Programmer-Entrepreneur/dp/074321580X When you understand the different types of software business you will understand that as a Freelancer you are in the service sector which is not bad per-se you need just to expand it and be aware of the difficulties and different solutions to expand.
