This is a question I was able to answer few years ago. I have always been a native Desktop apps fan for numerous reasons.

But these days, the JavaScript libraries and website renderers have been improving massively and my arguments for the Desktop based apps are no longer as valid as years ago.

My question is: would you rather use a Native Desktop Application or a Web Application?

Same questions applies for Mobile Apps: Do you prefer the Apple or Google approach?

Thanks.

I would also vote for a web app unless it's an app I heavily rely on for my every day uses. I still would prefer to have a web app, I also think web apps are easier to distribute, update and maintain ...

It depends on what does that app do but for the most tasks I'd prefer a web app, since it is easier to use from different computers, and you'll have your data available.
but I think the issue is more complex than that, I mean what do you consider adobe air apps? desktop or web?
I think future applications will be somewhere in between desktop and web, more cloud centric thin clients
