I am looking for some market data about advertising in the MENA. Specifically,

  • How much money is spent on advertising (online, tv, radio, and mobile)?
  • What are the typical rates for each?
  • Who are the major players in this space?
  • What is the per country breakdown?

This kind of data is really helpful when deciding how to market and monetize a product. Where do people get this kind of data today for their spaces? Are there good reports that focus on the MENA market that others recommend?

Much thanks!

Oh wow.. good luck on that one :)

I faced the same challenge last year. You can try to use reports from popular organizations such as the Arab Advisors Group, or Zawya.com

Or, you can search for a specialized market research firms, and there are only a few in the Arab World.

I relied on global reports, and derived my own conclusions from my personal experience. After all stats even in developed markets don't tell you the full story, it's just a starting point.

Good luck..

isi emerging markets and factiva have some information, although probably not for online advertising, and rather for telecom.

I would also try the business/professional associations or even the ministries (in the UAE/KSA). Those might be able to get you some information on advertising tax spending averages of the various industries, or even the tax rebates that advertising gets in some countries (like in Lebanon, for example).

Oh wow.. good luck on that a single :) I confronted the same challenge final 12 months. You'll be able to try and use reports from well-liked organizations like the Arab Advisors Expedia Coupon Group, or Zawya.com Or, you can lookup for any specialized market place investigation companies, and you'll find only some inside the Arab World. I relied on international studies, and derived my personal conclusions from my private expertise.

In the end stats even just in created markets don't inform you the total story, it really is only a starting position.

Good luck..
