I have not come across clean-tech startups but I always hear about the space booming. Are there any in the middle east and if yes what do they do ? Thanks T.K |

I started a cleantech company in the Gulf a few months ago. We are focusing mainly on energy efficiency projects in the region. You can read more about our company at: www.FuGu-Development.com To the broader question about cleantech start ups in the middle east, I have only come across a handful during my search (which was primarily focused on the Gulf). The start ups were mainly those that imported existing foreign technologies and simply act as distributors in the region. One exception is Enviromena, which is often touted as one of the successful cleantech start ups as it built the Masdar PV plant and raised a significant amount of venture capital. Email me directly if you'd like more info about specific parts of the cleantech industry (Marwan@FuGu-Energy.com) However, keep in mind that the cleantech industry in the Gulf is for the most part government-dominated. Masdar, for example, is trying to do everything they can on their own (or own parts of the companies that do it - Masdar owns part of Enviromena). |

You should look up Cedar Environmental, a Lebanese company (http://www.cedarenv.com/). They offer composting technology for municipalities to treat waste and convert it into compost. Hope this helps, F. |
