There are 2 aspects here: 1- Make sure the content of the site is something users will want to share with their friends, family or colleagues. Mainly you're talking about media that is shocking, funny, sexy... or a service/functionality that is useful to a wide segment of the demographic you are after. 2- You need to make sure you provide the most efficient functionality for users to 'share' your site and content to disseminate across the web.
