I see a lot mentioned about SEO for English sites, but there is not a lot of information about how to do SEO for non-English sites. What are some best practices to SEO optimize an Arabic site? I want people to find my site even if they search in English. |

من الناحية النظرية لا يوجد فرق في الإجراءات. الخطوات التي تصلح للمواقع الإنجليزية تصلح للمواقع العربية. فأهم مبدأ تعتمد عليه معايير SEO هو حسن صياغة المحتوى، ثم ثم بعد ذلك اتباع خطوات تقنية بسيطة على مستوى توصيف المحتوى ونشره. هذا كل شيء، أما كثرة المقالات الانجليزية المتوفرة حول الموضوع فأغلبها مجرد حشو. بخصوص نقطة الوصول إلى موقعك العربي عند البحث بكلمات إنجليزية فهو غير منطقي. لو أراد المستخدم أن يقرأ موقعا بالعربية لبحث باستخدام كلمة عربية، أما أن يبحث بالانجليزية ويصل إلى موقع بالعربية فسيشعر بأنه خدع! محرك بحث جوجل يقوم بالتجربة الآلية تلقائيا إلى لغات أخرى إذا لم يتم إيجاد نتائج بلغة البحث. جربت من قبل البحث بكلمات عربية، لكن عند عدم وجود نتائج بالعربية يعرض لي نتائج بالانجليزية أو الفرنسية. أما العكس فلم أجربه. |

I think people tend to overrate SEO, and Arabia is no exception. I see it this way (and many others do): Good content speaks for itself and it propagates naturally in the web, just like nice aroma (ok this may sounded a bit poetic :) ). I am not saying that SEO is not important. It's just shouldn't be overrated and my favorite is the one of a natural mechanism. When you provide good content (or great service), people from other websites will naturally mention you and this is the best SEO you can get. It's also may look ironic that Mat Cutts Google's search engine optimization expert indicated that, and of course there was an outrage by many SEO companies on that post. Someone will say: What if my service is not so compelling to people? To solve this, you can create a blog that provides compelling content. Then people will link back to that blog, and consequently your service. link text Oh i think i went off topic. To answer your question, the techniques should be the same for any language.

SEO is just one tool in promoting your site - don't depend too much on it and don't ignore it. Invest some time (and possibly some money) in : 1 - A good FB page and have your users like/share it (while this is not strictly an SEO activity, it does help rankings) 2 - Spend 1 day a month building links with free directories (there are tons of arabic ones) 3 - Use your network, have quality sites owned by people you know link to your site. 4 - Don't lose sleep over metatags/keywords, etc - just have the basics there and you'll be fine. 5 - A lot of high-PR arabic traffic comes from forums. If you can get some backlinks from forums will be quite useful. Your #1 tool for SEO is patience and lots and lots of patience. Don't pay anybody who tells you "I'll get you on page #1 in google for $500" |
