Hi guys iam the developer of the arabic twitter client http://kzalek.com

i wonder how the creators of the others twitter clients like seesmic , tweetdeck ... etc make money from their apps and what's their business model and why the investors invest in their apps.

ISA kzalek v 0.3 will be kick ass and i will implement a lot of creative ideas and competition with the apps i mentioned above in my mind all the time .

thank you in advance ;)

I don't think adding ads to the application or selling it would be a good idea of monetizing your product, specially that there are various alternatives with the same features, ad free and for FREE!

Instead, you should come out with some "out of the box" ideas that would make money from your application. For example, you can push out "Sponsored Tweets" to your users every now and then. Or maybe you can sell 3rd parties, customized layout of your app, for example you can create a pepsi theme for your application and push it for your users and make pepsi pay for it! There are MANY different ways that you can make your application monetizable other than selling it to the end-user or stuffing it with Ads!

+1 for the sponsored theme idea :) , though sponsored tweets are not favored, because everyone hates spam ..

Consider creating a "Pro" version of the client with added features and benefits. I think this is what a lot of mobile application developers. Entice with the freebies then capture their hearts with the pro version.

+1 for the pro version idea, and "capture their hearts" ;) .. some of the best free software (avg , avast, zonealarm) are making money that way and are succeeding , of course a tweeter app won't get you as much money as they make, but it proves that the concept works.

I am sorry, but I can't agree with you at this point! Why would anybody go with this Paid application, where they can download VARIOUS alternatives for FREE?! not to mention that Kzalek is a desktop application not mobile application!

@Steitiyeh: in that case, why develop your application AT ALL if it's gonna be mediocre and similar to what's available in the market?! An application developer should strive to distinguish themselves from the competition, and if these added benefits and features that are not available elsewhere but are included with your Pro version, then I think that could be a selling point. Just look at Photoshop vs. GIMP. People will pay for quality.

It doesn't matter whether it's a desktop or mobile application-- the concept of a free + paid counterpart is what's at play here.
