Is there a network, a reference, or any other place where I could get information on Social Entrepreneurs in the MENA region? Social entrepreneurship doesn't have to refer to a purely non profit or ngo type of organization. It could very well be for profit, but with social welfare as a goal or major driving force.

Not sure if there is any specific repository for Social Entrpreneurship or Social Innovation sites/networks... these are the only ones I'm familiar with:

MENA: http://www.ashoka-arab.org/ashoka/ (their partner's list could give you a start in your search)

Egypt: http://www.nahdetmasr.org/

Syria: http://www.syriatrust.org/site/index.php?pname=&project_id=MzY=&tree_id=NDA=

Sadly.. I'm not familiar with many more.. good luck.

I came across this list (yesterday) of entrepreneurship projects in MENA. While it's not limited to social entrepreneurship per se... you should be able to find a few of them in there:

Here's a good start...a recent report analyzing social entrepreneurship in MENA: http://www.brookings.edu/reports/2010/04_social_entrepreneurship.aspx. It lists a bunch (I think about 78) in the Mid-East. Other good resources are Ashoka, Schwab, and Nahdet, which are all listed above in the first 2 posts.
