What is the fastest and cheapest way to get customers? the simple answer is: "through word of mouth and Web 2.0 sites". But what's the strategies? |
|
Having been in marketing for ten years now,I can tell you that the strategies for customer acquisition are easy. Implementing them is hard. It takes a willingness to admit you're wrong, lost control over your brand and constant vigilance. Customer acquisition is about driving your customers to the point of sale (let's assume it's your website for now) and making it easy for them to buy.

Go aggressive and mass!! contact couple of the biggest bloggers in the market of which you are targeting, work with them on some sort of a competition that would go VIRAL and giveaway like iphones, ipods, or anything appealing! keep it running for a month! If you managed to get more giveaways on board, try to announce a winner every week or so, it's gonna go crazy! trust me! Let me know if you need any help Best of luck! |

I agree with what the guys said, but i have some other idea, why not building a product that rocks, something addictive that people are gonna talk about it because they really like it and the lessons are:
hope you find that useful, good luck (: |

That definitely depends on your target audience and what sort of services/products you're offering... but in general, from an experience, social media has a great impact (the cheapest way for promotions). Another factor that plays a big role is your connections, doing some PR work at the beginning will make the WoM works better for you. Barter deals with some helpful people or companies will also give you the exposure, but you should be careful about those who you will barter with. Last but not least, build a portfolio and the good reputation as you start. Good luck :) |

I think it's important to differentiate between 'Customers' and 'Visitors/Subscribers'... the latter is quite easy through social media, promos, virals and blogger outreach programs. Customers, however are much more difficult to acquire and it's completely dependent on the quality of service/product and customer service.. So yes, as per W43l.. make sure the product/service is compelling enough for users to use/purchase... and it'll speak for itself. That's easier said than done of course.. but all the best! |

My strategy:
People will tell other people about how you solved their problem. Out of these people who hear about it, some of them will have the same problem, and that's how you can expand your customer base. Think about Craigslist, for example. Craigslist is unstoppable and doesn't pay anything for advertising. Because everybody knows that if you need to buy something locally, you do it through Craigslist. You want to be the best at solving the problem you solve, and you want people to know that. It's true that you can gain customers from social media techniques, but I always wonder how sticky those users are. Especially if you're building a product that people subscribe to and pay for, the question is about targeting the right users, not any user. You want users who a) really want your service because b) it solves a problem they have. You could always get featured and have 100,000 users in a day, but how many will come back tomorrow, and how much does this cost you today? How many subscribe and comment on your blog, and how many just look at it once and leave? I think that's the trick to building a loyal customer base that will support you and pay for your service. |
