Marhaba YallaStartuppers, I'm building a small local website based on tutoring and teaching ads and a forum to engage discussions between members of the community about education, schools, etc.... focused on 1 country, in an aim to help private tutors find customers and help parents make decisions regarding their childrens' education etc. Based on Wordpress and a theme and a few plugins, as an after hours hobby and a way to learn by doing it. I have around 50 ads now, the website is 3 months old, what would you advise me to do: focus on getting more content first OR would you start (with 50 ads) focusing on promoting it to get more traffic/visitors? My experience says "content is king", and with genuine user content and useful current info for the community, and the right marketing budget, the website will eventually get visitors and in return if they see their benefit/updated & new content would come back.... what's your take on that if there is little to no marketing budget? Thanks for your input. Riad |

Marhaba Riad, I have not been through marketing of a website yet, so my answer is from a theoretical standpoint only. Start with the SEO(search engine optimization) because it's free, only requires some time to learn, and set a % percentage of the revenue for ppc(pay per click) if it proves effective.. you may need to ask the experienced users here whether those are effective in the arab world(do people use search engines more or facebook?)..or just test it. if you don't mind sharing, what's ur site? |

Hi Waseem, thx for your input, I'm learning SEO by doing it, WP and its plugins are very helpful. The site is www.PeopleAreSmart.com (Classipress theme on Wordpress) - TC , Riad |

You are correct- Content is king. Without your content, users won't return and you will loose your advertisers. So you need to make sure you've got content to support your site. SEO is something you can do on the side (it's easy and cheap!), and really engage your users to give them a reason to come back- open up discussions for them to take part in, etc. Good Luck! |
