Hi guys,

We are trying to establish a website to sell locally made products in Jordan. Does anybody know if such a website needs to be officially registered with the chamber of commerce and do Taxes laws [16% Sales Taxes and others] apply to such products? I appreciate any information regarding this subject.

Thanks;

Wesam

Yes, you need to have registered company even if it's your business is eCommerce. Your items will be waived from taxes if sold items to customers who belong outside Jordan, but selling within Jordan border you are obliged to add the sales tax and pay other taxes.

Thanks Qais, I appreciate your interest and response

Do you know if sales taxes/or any other taxes are also applicable if the website is not performing actual trading but is just a mid point /3rd party between a physical existing store in the country and the end users/ potential customers [whcih will be in Jordan] and the website only takes a percentage of the sales done through the website from the store?

So, you are running affiliate-like business, right? Are you involved in any logistics activities like: delivery, order fulfillment...etc.?

Yes, it will be an affiliate like business. Delivery and logistics will be done by the store. We will provide customer services and after sales support and off course online marketing. We will target customers in Jordan 1st and then maybe extend to regional and then international markets.

Again thanks for your help

So your business is a purely service-based business with affiliation to certain suppliers. If your business volume is small then you can manage it from home without registering your company, but if you have a real business with good volume that need to rent office, hire employees...etc at that time I believe you need to register it and make everything legal.

Actually, there are number of online businesses can be managed from home without company licenses and these stuff, since you can manage it by your self or with your family members.

Let me know if you need anything else.
